Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs, Latin America - Sao Paulo

This position is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The area: Public Policy

The Global Public Policy Team is a close-knit group that develops, advises on and advocates in favor of public policy positions for the benefit of Google, its users and the internet as a whole. Our team works at the international, federal, state, and local levels - actively engaging with government officials, policymakers, non-governmental organizations, academics, trade groups and others - to shape legislation, influence dialogue, and build a network of friends and supporters. Within the company, we work closely with the Corporate Communications and Product teams as well as with our Legal team colleagues.

The role: Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs, Latin America

As the Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs, Latin America, based in Sao Paulo, you will be responsible for Google's public policy leadership across the Latin American region. You will work to advocate Google's public policy positions, to promote a free and open Internet and to advance the goals and values of the company. Key issues will include privacy and data protection, content regulation, intellectual property (including copyright, patent and trademark), cybercrime, communications and media policy, and the regulation of Internet networks and technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent Google before policymakers in national governments, legislatures, and regulatory bodies.
  • Work with trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and other allies to promote and build support for Google’s policy positions.
  • Write policy papers, position statements, formal communications, blog posts.
  • Communicate policy positions to key constituencies nationally and worldwide.
  • In general, advance Google's mission, defend its values, and create new opportunities to make the world a better place.

Requirements:

  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Direct experience working with or in the various branches, agencies and institutions of the national government or parliament.
  • Ability to integrate public policy with business strategy and corporate development.
  • Familiarity with internet technologies and related policy environments.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and ability to collaborate with energy, motivation, determination, and a passion for Google and the Internet.
